Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for thousands of years. This approach to healing uses herbal medicines and various mind and body practices, such as acupuncture and other alternative therapies to treat or prevent health problems. TCM can also help you recharge the self-healing properties in your body and aid in rebalancing your mind, body and spirit.
Some modalities of TCM are acupuncture, acupressure, herbal therapy and diet. All modalities are based on Qi or energy. Energy flows through our body through invisible pathways called “meridians,” which nourish our body. There are 12 major meridians which connect specific organs, organizing a system of communication throughout your body. When our meridians are closed off, it creates imbalances within the body and mind.
Acupuncture can help relieve energy blockages, opening up the meridians and aiding in internal balance. Acupuncture has successfully helped relieve back pain, headaches, migraines, and sports injuries. However, the benefits of acupuncture go far beyond pain relief. It can also help with anxiety, mental clarity, sleep issues, digestive problems, menstrual problems, infertility and much more.
Acupressure is similar to acupuncture in that it opens up the meridians in order for our body’s natural healing process to work optimally. Instead of using needles, acupressure uses manual pressure on specific parts of the body to aid in stress relief, improved sleep, minimize muscle tension, improve digestion issues, reduce headaches and alleviate chronic pain.
Herbal therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with other modalities to restore balance and strengthen resistance to disease. Herbal supplements were used for physical and mental ailments long before traditional medicine was available and is a popular alternative.
