Maybe you’re pressed for time, on a budget or prefer to pamper yourself at home… whatever the case, here are some tips to spoil yourself! As a mama, mama to be, a woman, or heck, a member of the human race, we tend to push ourselves to do more, be more, etc. This week, take time to honor yourself and be enough. In short, give yourself some love and peace.
Set the scene… ah, it may be tough to find a quiet place in the house, but creating a serene space out of the room that you are pampering yourself in is important. Tune into your favorite calming Pandora/Spotify station and dim the lights, or, better yet, indulge in your home spa by candlelight. If you have a salt lamp, you can also schlep that into your “spa room”. Now that you have lighting and sound taken care of, let’s talk about scent. Maybe light a scented candle, burn some incense, or plug in an oil diffuser using whichever calming scents you like. I always add French lavender whenever possible.
Sink into relaxation. Draw a warm bath and add your fave treats. Perhaps a bath bomb from Lush, a honey bath from Laura Mercier, or bath cubes from Fresh (my current obsession) to spice up the water. Allow yourself to sink in and let go. Focus on this moment by tuning into the sound and rhythm of your breath.
Scrub a dub dub! Pick your poison for sloughing off dead skin and cleaning out pores. ARCONA Golden Grain Gommage is a wonderful product for facial exfoliation. For the body, I like the BeautyCounter Lemongrass Scrub. I pay special attention to my elbows, knees, feet, and other rough patches. And why not add Sugar Lip Polish by Fresh to spruce up your pucker!
Mask off! There are so many amazing masks out there these days! Sheet masks, peel off masks, deep cleansing masking, hydrating masks, oh my! It’s nice to have a few on hand for the various skin concerns you may have. For my most recent home spa experience, I pulled out my Rose Face Mask from Fresh. My sweet (and hilarious) friend Jill recommended it and I LOVE it! Perfectly calming, nourishing and toning with a delicate rose scent. And let’s not forget a hair mask! A few that I like are the Bumble & Bumble Bb Mending Masque or MINU Illuminating Hair Mask. Again take the time to chill out while in the bath. Practice not doing anything as if you’re in Shavasana at the end of a yoga class.
Wrap yourself in a towel, give yourself a hug and slather on a hydrating body oil or lotion. I like to mix together the Baby Soothing Oil from BeautyCounter and the relaxing Lavender Massage Cream by Aura Cacia.
Post-home spa, take a few more deep breaths and slink into bed for a soothing slumber.
